IS IT SUPPOSED TO RAIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Imagine this: it’s about a week or so before your big day, and your master checklist (provided by yours truly) says to start watching the weather forecast when to your surprise you see that little lightning bolt and a storm cloud on your weather app. What do you do? Freak out? Scream, cry and call the wedding off?

NOPE. Rain on your wedding day is supposedly good luck and means that your wedding will rain down happiness or something like that, but I can promise you no bride has ever cared about having that kind of luck when it’s HER wedding day that’s being rained on.

There are actually a ton of really creative and fun ways to cherish your wedding day even in the rain, but you should definitely be prepared with a solid plan B rain plan.

HOW TO MAKE A PLAN B OR RAIN PLAN

First and foremost, when choosing your venue you need to consider the possibility that it might rain on your wedding day, especially if you’re getting married during rain season in North Carolina! We can expect there to be a ton of rainy weddings between April through July.

When choosing your venue, see if they offer a rain plan option such as a covered pavillion or even an indoor option. If the venue is completely outdoors, you will need to reserve a tent in the event that it rains. These deposits are usually 50% and non-refundable, so make sure you LOVE the venue before committing this kind of cash.

Another note: Your rain plan should be equally as beautiful as your plan A. As your wedding planner, I do NOT want to see devastatement on your face when I tell you we have to move to the rain plan. If you aren’t equally as excited about plan B, it’s not the right plan for you and we need to choose an alternate option before wedding day.

Your rain plan should also be logistically sound as well. It is not feasible to move a large arbor, 4 wine barrels, flowers and 150 chairs in the pouring rain inside 30 minutes before your ceremony is about to start. Have these discussions early about when the cutoff time for decisions is, so you know exactly what to expect on your wedding day.

CREATIVE WAYS TO DANCE IN THE RAIN

But Cheyenne, I REALLY don’t want it to rain on my wedding day. I don’t care that the venue is beautiful inside and that we have this rain plan, I want to have it outside! *dramatically slams fist on ground and throws toddler tantrum*

Trust me, I get it. I don’t want it to rain on your wedding day either! BUT, in the event that it does, here are some fun ways to celebrate the rain rather than trying to pretend it isn’t there:

– Have some cute, clear umbrellas on hand to take some gorgeous under the umbrella photos.

– Have a bridesmaid or groomsmen place a cup outside to gather some of the rain and have it bottled.

– Actually dance in the rain! At the end of the night once all the festivities have been had, choose to have your last dance outside in the rain and EMBRACE IT!

OTHER WEDDING DAY RAIN TIPS

Rain on your wedding day is not something you should stress about, especially months before your wedding day. I tell my clients that until they can actually see what the forecase says for their wedding, they aren’t allowed to stress about it! You are allowed to plan for everything else…but not the weather!
