Summerfield Farms Fall Transition Editorial

If you live in North Carolina (or any other southern state really), there is this weird time between September and November that we call “Fall” where it is still 90 degrees outside, the leaves are starting to change colors and fall off of the trees and everyone suddenly becomes obsessed with pumpkin spice lattes.

Ever heard of it? I thought you might. This is what we in the wedding industry call “Busy Season” because most of our weddings fall during these months. The struggle is, we have some couples who want to embrace the Fall tones and falling leaves and some couples who would rather hold onto the last bit of Summer we have left…

Insert – Fall Transition. This style embodies everything that we love about Fall including warm wooden barns, dried florals, cozy velvets and fallen leaves while still holding onto the Summer goodness we aren’t ready to part with just yet. You know, the cool pastels, party ponies and clean lines.

This editorial shoot was designed for the bride who wants it all (or really just can’t make up her mind!) and loves everything both seasons have to offer.

Here are my top 5 tips to hosting a Fall Transition wedding:

  1. Have fun with your color palette! You have so much flexibility here to play into the mixed metals, cool & warm tones and even with your attire to make your wedding *exactly* what you want it to be. And don’t be afraid of silver even though we live in a gold focused world right now. 😉
  2. Be careful with your florals on your sweetheart table! To be clear, I am such a fan of tons of florals on the sweetheart, but make sure your guests can see you through the garden. Notice here how we arranged the florals to be on either side of our couple while still maintaining that “tons of florals” feel. No floating heads here!
  3. Remember that this time of year is still HOT HOT HOT. You can’t tell in these photos, but we ALL had sweat stains everywhere. I kept joking that it was 700 degrees. Kaitlyn nailed this bridal look that featured a high slit for plenty of breathing room and a party pony that kept her cool and comfortable all day.
  4. Candlelight = Cozy. Although this design featured more cool pastels and less of what you would normally expect to see for a “Fall wedding”, we were able to still make everything feel very cozy by including lots of romantic candlelight, fuzzy velvet napkins and an inviting lounge that made you feel right at home.
  5. Book vendors that feel like friends. Okay this tip applies regardless of when you are getting married, but I can’t explain how fun it is to work with vendors that really feel like friends. We had SO much fun working on this project, and I am so excited to share it with you! Scroll to the bottom for this vendor list!
